Meet Alfred*

A few weeks ago, I was talking to a retailer, let’s call him Alfred.

Alfred was frustrated at the fact that he just didn’t seem to have enough time. Between working his ecommerce retail store, dropping the kids at school and day care, and prepping meals, he was staring straight into the eyes of Overwhelm. With a capital O.
Overwhelm was such a presence in his life, that when we dug a little bit deeper into his situation, he confessed that he wasn’t getting any work done on his business. He was just packing orders, and drowning in ‘everything’

If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I’m a take action kind of person.

If you want to whinge about business and get sympathy from me, it’s likely that I’ll offer you some solutions, and expect that you’ll take action. And that’s exactly what Alfred and I did.

I recently went into a store, that felt like I was in a time warp.
The store sold “timeless” pieces for furniture.
All I could see was fat, puffy leather sofas (from the 90’s), brown wood (from the 90’s) and the desperate stench of “please buy something”.

Timeless does not mean time warp.

Seasons change, trends change, and people’s tastes change as they get older. So being on trend, with what’s happening externally in the design world, and internally, with your own target market, is the key to having the right inventory and great store turnover.

So how can you keep up with happening, what’s trending, and what your customer is actually looking for?

When it comes to online shopping, it can be a customer’s worst nightmare, seeing the same description over and over. When that happens, al a customer has left to choose on, is the price that you’re selling the product for, or what other products you happen to stock, that your customer might be looking for.

Two pretty tenuous reasons for a customer to shop with you, rather than your competitor, right?

So it’s time to stop copying manufacturers (or even worse, another website’s) product descriptions.

In this post-holiday lull, now is the time to review the products on your website.

Creating your own, unique and individual product description will not only delight your customers, as an added bonus, you’ll also get added “Google juice”, because Google LOVES unique content.

So here’s my 5 minute hack to make you a product description-copywriting ninja

In this week's episode you will hear what our guests answered in the past on Sal's great question "What makes you go wow when you walk into a retail store"

We have Dan Norris, Greg Van Borssum and Jessica Oman.

Dan Norris:

That's very difficult question. I don't shop very often. I am an online shopper and I like apple store, I don't know why. I think I am very heavenly influenced by design. If I see website and I need to buy something, I don't know if that is to common thing, but if I see the site that is really really well executed and really well designed and really good images, like product images, that is probably translate as a phisicaly as well.

Today we are talking about relationships.

Fiona's Bio:

I’m a relationship specialist, personal coach, speaker, facilitator and the mother of four beautiful feisty children.

But most of all, I am a passionate advocate of the power of human connection.

Connection is everything. It feeds our soul. It is the vital pumping force at the heart of all we think, do and feel.

When we are truly connected, we shine. We are the best possible versions of ourselves we can be.

The Relationship Place is all about human connection. It’s about helping people get back to a place of fun, love and light with each other.

I love working with couples and individuals to peel back the layers of misunderstanding and judgement, to restore the laughter and the love.

When it comes to customer acquisition, the hard part is driving people to your website.

Once they’ve landed, you have a chance of selling to them.

If you’ve managed to get them all the way through to checkout, you’ve hit a home run.

Your work is done.

Right?

Wrong!

When it comes to selling, the opportunity that an existing customer will buy from you again, ranks around 70%, whereas a new customer can be as low as 5%. Or let’s be honest. A big fat 0%

So once you’ve managed to get someone to fork over cash for your products, it’s time to celebrate them, make them feel fantastic about shopping with you and prompt them to come back again.

Here are 6 ways to optimize post purchase pages on your ecommerce site.

When I first meet with a retailer, I ask them why they opened their store.

And of course, the reasons vary dramatically.

Bu what generally comes up are these 5 things

To have more freedom to spend time with my family

To not have to work as many hours  andTo not have to work in a rigid corporate environment

To make more money

Because I love this thing I sell and wanted to share it with others.

Sound familiar?

And to tell you the truth, MOS of those things are the reasons that small business retailers ended up closing shop within the first 3 years.

So why are those the wrong reasons to open a retail store, and how do you turn them into the right reasons?

What you'll discover when I talk to Cinzia

  • Cinzia shares her journey from Kitchen Table to success
  • Why her family was the motivator for Smoothie Bombs
  • How she juggles working and being a single mother
  • What happened when someone stole her idea and copied it

BIO

As a nutritionist and dedicated single mother of two, I created the Smoothie Bombs 5 years ago at my kitchen bench. Lana, my youngest, was skipping breakfast way too often; it was a battle to get her to eat breakfast.

I tried many tactics and I nailed it with what has become Smoothie Bombs. When it proved successful at home, word got out in the local community.

Soon after family and friends gathered around the kitchen table for rolling sessions to keep up with demand.

Local cafes were soon on board and the idea of turning this into a business became viable. I decided to make it into a consumer product in January 2014, where the iconic tube was born.
